A bankruptcy consultation is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the filing process. This is the perfect opportunity to ask questions and lean how the process works. Before we can file a bankruptcy case on your behalf, you will need to provide the following:
- 7 months of most recent pay stubs for you and your spouse (if married), even if you are filing alone.
- Proof of any other income for the most recent 7 months.
- If self-employed, a profit and loss statement for the most recent 7 months.
- Bank statements for the most recent 3 months for all your bank accounts, including your spouse’s (if married), even if you are filing your bankruptcy alone. This includes savings accounts, checking credit unions, online accounts, and anything that is a financial account and deposit account.
- Tax returns for the most recent 3 years, if completed.
- All collection letters, statements from creditors, debts, bills from creditors/debts (except current ongoing utilities, like your power bill, auto insurance, cellular phone, water/sewer), lawsuit documents (if involved in a lawsuit in past 2 years), divorce decrees (if divorced in the past 8 years). Payday loan debts and medical bills are oftentimes not on credit reports; therefore, please provide all of these to us. Our office will electronically obtain all three of your credit reports and include every debt that appears on them, in addition to the debts that you provide to us. For a debt to be discharged, it must be disclosed.
- Proof of completion of the 1st class, called credit counseling or credit briefing. Our bankruptcy attorneys and paralegals will help you coordinate this after our first meeting.
- Complete a bankruptcy questionnaire that we will provide you in our office or electronically.
- Sometimes, dependent on your particular case, we may need other documents.
